2.     India had the privilege of organizing the 22nd session of International Geological Congress at New Delhi in 1964. This was the first IGC in Asia. India along with its neighboring countries won the bid for 36th IGC in 2012 at Brisbane, Australia. With this, the IGC is returning to Indian subcontinent after a gap of 56 years.

The 36th IGC is a platform where the global geo-science community will come together to explore opportunities for scientific collaboration, networking, capacity building and showcasing the scientific findings from their country to the world geo-scientific community. It also presents a perfect stage for India to showcase its geological capabilities and present new business opportunities in the mining and metal sectors.
